The inhabited island that is at the southernmost tip of Croatia is Kolocep, whose name is derived from the Italian word for knowledge. The island is a relatively small one, covering only about 2.3 square kilometers of land area. A village in Kolocep that often charms tourists is Donje Celo, with less than 200 inhabitants, and with a large bay that offers access to visitors via ferry. Premuda is the regular boat service that takes commuters to and from Donje Celo.
Because Donje Celo possesses an ideal location along the sea, most tourists who come to this small town enjoy bathing, lounging on the sandy shores, or simply strolling along the coves. The climate in Donje Celo and along the island of Kolocep is friendly for beach goers for most of the year, with cool winds and warm sunshine. Guests to the town can also admire greenery as seen in the abundant pine trees dotting its landscape. In fact, one of the most recommended activities in Donje Celo is hiking along the nature trails that line the area.
